MP3 Cutter trims an MP3 to the part you want: the intro of a song, a quote from a podcast, a clip for a video. Select it on the waveform, add a fade and download the new MP3. It works in the browser on any computer or phone, and the MP3 is never uploaded.
How to cut an MP3
- Choose the MP3. Its waveform appears with the whole file selected.
- Drag across the waveform, or type From and To (for example 0:42 and 1:15).
- Under Selection, choose Keep it to keep only that part, or Remove it to delete it and keep the rest.
- Leave Save as on MP3, pick the quality, click Cut and download.
Common jobs
- Trim silence or chatter at the start and end of a recording: select from the first word to the last and keep it.
- Cut out an ad or a mistake in a podcast or voice memo: select it and choose Remove it.
- Make a clip for a video or a slideshow: keep the part you need and add a 1 s fade in and out.
- Shorten a song for a presentation or a workout playlist: keep the main part and fade out at the end.
- Save a quote from an interview or a lecture, to share or transcribe it.
Matching the original quality
Every MP3 has a bitrate, and the cut MP3 is encoded again. Choose a quality at least as high as the original so nothing is lost that you can hear:
| Original MP3 | Choose |
|---|---|
| Podcast, voice memo (64–128 kbit/s) | 128 kbit/s |
| Most music downloads (192–256 kbit/s) | 192 kbit/s |
| High-quality music (320 kbit/s) | 320 kbit/s |
To estimate an MP3’s bitrate, divide the size by the length: about 1 MB per minute is 128 kbit/s, about 1.4 MB per minute is 192 kbit/s, about 2.4 MB per minute is 320 kbit/s.
Common problems
- A click at the start or end: add a 0.5 s fade, or move the cut point a little into a pause.
- The selection is hard to drag on a phone: drag roughly, then type the exact times.
- You need the cut as another format: choose WAV for editing, M4A for iPhone, or M4R for a ringtone with the Ringtone Maker.
