Audio Cutter: Cut MP3 and Audio Online

Cut MP3, WAV, M4A and other audio in your browser: select on the waveform, add fades, keep or remove the part. Free, nothing uploaded.

Runs in your browser. Your files are never uploaded. How it works

Audio Cutter cuts a part out of an MP3 or any other audio file. Drag across the waveform (or type the times), add a fade in and out, and save as MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC or OGG. It runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

How to cut audio

  1. Choose an audio file (or a video).
  2. Drag across the waveform to select the part, or type From and To.
  3. Choose to keep the selection or remove it, add fades if you like, and click Cut.
  4. Listen to the result in the preview. If it is not right, change the times and click Cut again; the original file is still loaded.

Typing exact times

The waveform is quick for a rough selection; the time boxes are for precision. Both accept minutes and seconds with decimals, such as 0:15, 2:03.5 or 1:23.45, or seconds only, such as 75 or 75.5. On a phone, dragging on a small waveform is fiddly, so drag roughly and then correct the times by typing.

Keep or remove

You want Selection Example
One part only Keep it A chorus, a quote, a clip for a video
Everything except one part Remove it An ad, a cough, a mistake, a long pause
To trim the start and end Keep it Select from the first word to the last

When you remove a part from the middle, the two sides are joined directly. A short fade does not apply at the join, so pick the cut points in quiet moments.

Fades

Fade in and Fade out can be None or 0.5 to 10 seconds. Even 0.5 s takes away the click you sometimes hear when a cut starts or ends in the middle of a sound. Use 1–3 s for music that should start and end softly, 5–10 s for a long fade out at the end of a song; leave fades off for speech that should start on the first word. To only add fades to a whole file, open Fade In and Fade Out Audio, which starts with 3 s at both ends.

Tips for clean cuts

  • Cut in the gaps: the waveform shows quiet parts as thin lines. Cut points there sound natural.
  • Keep quality while editing: if you will edit the file again, save as WAV or FLAC. MP3, M4A and OGG are encoded again every time they are saved.
  • Video sound: choosing a video saves only its sound. To cut the video itself, use Trim Video.
  • Next steps: make the clip louder with the Volume Booster or join several clips with the Audio Joiner.

Frequently asked questions

Is my audio uploaded?

No. The audio is processed in your browser, on your device, and never sent anywhere.

Can I remove a part from the middle?

Yes. Select the part and choose Remove it under Selection: the rest is joined back together.

Can I cut the sound of a video?

Yes. Choose the video; its sound track is used and saved as audio.

Does cutting lower the quality?

Saving as WAV or FLAC keeps it exactly. MP3, M4A and OGG are encoded again; at 192 kbit/s or more the difference is not audible.

How precise can the cut be?

As precise as you type it. Times like 1:23.45 (minutes, seconds and hundredths) or plain seconds like 83.45 both work.
