What happens when you use a tool
- Your browser downloads the tool's program code from this website, the same way it downloads any web page.
- You choose a file. The browser hands it to that code, which runs on your device.
- The code does the work, for example merging PDF pages or turning a page into an image.
- The result is saved to your downloads. Nothing is sent back to the website.
This is possible because modern browsers can run fast, compiled code (WebAssembly) and draw documents on a canvas. The tools are built on well-known open-source libraries, the same kind browsers use themselves to display PDFs and images.
Check it yourself in two minutes
- Open a tool, for example Merge PDF.
- Press F12 (or right-click the page and choose Inspect) and open the Network tab.
- Choose a file and run the tool.
- Look at the list of requests. You will see JavaScript and font files coming from this website, but no request that sends your file to it or to anyone else. If you accepted statistics cookies, you will also see small requests to Google Analytics; they contain the page address and the tool name, never your file or its name.
Our automated tests do the same check for every tool before each release: if a tool ever sent data while processing a file, or an analytics event contained a file name, the release would fail.

Limits to be aware of
- Very large files are limited by your device's memory. A computer handles more than a phone.
- An internet connection is needed to open the page and load a tool. Your files are not sent over it.
- Hosting is provided by Cloudflare, which, like any web host, processes technical data such as IP addresses. See the privacy policy.
- We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which tools are used. In the EU, the UK and Switzerland it only runs if you accept. It never receives your files.
