Watermark PDF adds a text or image watermark to the pages of a PDF, such as CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, COPY or your company logo. You choose where it goes, how big and how see-through it is, and which pages get it. Everything happens in your browser, and the file is never uploaded.
How to add a watermark to a PDF
- Click Choose a PDF or drop a PDF onto the page.
- Under Watermark, pick Text or Image or logo.
- For text, type up to 80 characters in Text (it starts as CONFIDENTIAL) and pick a Colour. For an image, choose a PNG or JPG file.
- Set Position, Size and Opacity.
- In Pages, leave the box empty for all pages, or type pages like
1-3, 5. - Click Add watermark. The file is saved with
-watermarkedadded to its name.
The options
| Option | Choices |
|---|---|
| Position | Diagonal across the page, Centre, Top right, Bottom right, Bottom left, Top left |
| Size | Small, Medium, Large |
| Opacity | Very light (15%), Light (30%), Medium (50%), Strong (80%) |
| Colour | Any colour (text only; default red) |
| Pages | All pages, or ranges such as 1-3, 5, -4 (pages 1 to 4) or 8- (page 8 to the end) |
Diagonal text runs from the bottom left corner towards the top right and is sized to fit the page, so short words such as DRAFT come out large and long phrases come out smaller. Sideways pages get the watermark in the direction you read them.
Tips
- For drafts and internal copies, diagonal text at Light (30%) is easy to see but keeps the page readable.
- For a logo, a corner position with Small or Medium size and Medium or Strong opacity looks tidy.
Common problems
- “Type the watermark text.”: the Text box is empty. Type a word or switch to Image or logo.
- “Choose a PNG or JPG image for the watermark.”: no image is selected. Other formats, such as SVG or WebP, are not accepted.
- The logo has a white box around it: JPG files have no transparency. Use a PNG with a transparent background.
- The PDF is password-protected: unlock it first with Unlock PDF, using the password you know.
