Sign PDF Online

Sign a PDF in your browser: draw, type or upload your signature, add initials, text, a date or a check mark, then save. Free, no sign-up, no upload.

Runs in your browser. Your files are never uploaded. How it works

Sign PDF lets you put your signature on a PDF without printing it. Draw it with a mouse or finger, type your name in a handwriting style, or upload a photo of your signature on paper. Add initials, text, a date or a check mark and save a signed copy, all in your browser.

How to sign a PDF

  1. Click Choose a PDF or drop a PDF onto the page.
  2. Scroll to the page you want to sign and click Signature. Choose Draw, Type or Upload image, pick Blue or Black ink, and click Add to page.
  3. Drag the signature into place. Use the corner handle to make it bigger or smaller, and click × to remove it.
  4. Add anything else you need: Initials, Text, Date or ✓ Check. Each item goes onto the page you are looking at.
  5. Click Save signed PDF. The file is saved with -signed added to its name, such as contract-signed.pdf.

Three ways to make your signature

  • Draw: sign in the box with a mouse, touchpad, pen or finger. Clear starts again.
  • Type: type your name and it is written in a handwriting-style font.
  • Upload image: use a photo or scan of your signature on white paper. The white paper background is removed, so only the ink is placed on the page.

Electronic signature or digital signature?

This tool (simple electronic signature) Certificate-based digital signature
What is added An image of your signature, plus text A cryptographic seal tied to an ID certificate
Proves who signed No, it shows your mark Yes, through the certificate issuer
Shows later changes No Yes, the seal breaks if the file changes

Tips

  • Fill forms without fields. Use Text for names and addresses, and ✓ Check for tick boxes. See Fill PDF Form.
  • Signing a Word file? Convert it first with Word to PDF, then sign it here.

Common problems

  • The uploaded signature looks grey or has a box around it: take the photo in good light, on plain white paper, with dark ink. Shadows and off-white paper are only partly removed.
  • The signature looks blurry: draw it larger in the box, or upload a sharper photo, then make it smaller on the page.
  • “Add a signature, text, date or check to a page first”: nothing has been placed yet, or the text boxes are empty.

Private by design

Frequently asked questions

Is this a legally valid signature?

It is a simple electronic signature: an image of your signature placed on the page. Many everyday documents, such as forms, permission slips and many agreements, accept this. It is not a certificate-based digital signature, so if a contract or authority asks for a qualified, certified or verifiable digital signature, use a dedicated signing service.

Is my PDF or my signature uploaded?

No. The PDF is opened, signed and saved by your own browser, and your signature is created on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, and the signature is not stored after you close the page.

Can I sign a password-protected PDF?

Yes, if you know the password. Enter it when asked and the pages open as usual. The signed copy is saved without the password, so protect it again with your usual app if you need to.

Can I sign several pages?

Yes. Scroll to a page and click Signature or Initials again: the signature you already made is added to that page straight away, without drawing it again.

Can I type in another language?

Yes. Text in Western European languages is saved as real text you can select and search. Other scripts, such as Chinese, Arabic or Cyrillic, are saved as an image of the text, which looks the same but cannot be selected.
