Volume Booster: Make Audio Louder

Make MP3 and other audio louder in your browser without distortion, or quieter. Boost quiet recordings. Free, no sign-up, nothing uploaded.

Runs in your browser. Your files are never uploaded. How it works

Volume Booster makes quiet recordings, voice memos and songs louder, without the harsh distortion of simply turning the volume up. Choose how much louder (or quieter) and save as MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC or OGG. Everything runs in your browser, so the file is never uploaded.

How to make audio louder

  1. Choose an audio file or a video.
  2. Pick an option under Volume.
  3. Click Change volume. The status line shows how many dB were added. Listen to it and download.

The options

Option What it does Good for
As loud as possible without distortion Raises everything until the loudest moment reaches −1 dB Most files; safe default
Louder (+3 dB) A small, clear step up Slightly quiet podcasts
Much louder (+6 dB) About twice the level Quiet voice memos and meetings
Very loud (+10 dB) About twice as loud to the ear Very quiet recordings
Maximum (+15 dB) The largest boost Whispered or distant speech
Quieter (−6 dB), Much quieter (−12 dB) Lowers the level Ringtones, loud music, background tracks

How it avoids distortion

Turning audio up normally clips the loudest moments: the top of the wave is cut flat, which sounds harsh and crackly. Here, everything up to −1 dB is raised exactly; above that, peaks are rounded off softly instead of cut. Speech and most music stay clean even at +10 dB, because peaks are short.

The first option goes further: it measures the loudest moment and raises everything just enough for that moment to reach −1 dB, so nothing at all is rounded off. If the file is already at that level, it says so and leaves it unchanged.

Tips

  • Noise gets louder too. A boost raises hiss and hum along with the voice. For noisy recordings, use Noise Reduction first; it can also make the voice louder in the same step.
  • Music and big boosts: +10 and +15 dB flatten loud passages. For music, +3 or +6 dB usually sounds better.
  • One loud spot: if a single clap or bump limits the first option, cut it with the Audio Cutter, then boost again.
  • Lossless while editing: save as WAV or FLAC if you will process the file further.

Frequently asked questions

Is my audio uploaded?

No. The audio is processed in your browser, on your device, and never sent anywhere.

Will it distort?

No. Peaks are rounded off softly instead of clipping. The first option makes it as loud as possible without any distortion.

Can I make it quieter too?

Yes, choose Quieter or Much quieter.

Why did the first option barely change anything?

It raises the whole file until its loudest moment reaches −1 dB. One loud peak, such as a cough or a clap, sets that limit. Choose +6 dB or more instead: peaks are then rounded off softly.

Can I boost the sound of a video?

Yes. Choose the video: its sound is made louder and saved as an audio file.
