Online Voice Recorder records from your microphone and saves the recording as MP3, WAV, M4A or OGG. There is no sign-up and no time limit, and the recording stays on your device. Echo and background noise are reduced by the browser while you record.
How to record
- Click Start recording and allow the microphone.
- Speak; Pause and Resume if you need to. The timer shows the length, and the bar moves with your voice.
- Click Stop, listen to it, pick the format and download. Click Record again for a new take.
Which format to save
| Format | One minute | Plays on |
|---|---|---|
| MP3 | about 1 MB | Everything |
| M4A / AAC | about 1 MB | iPhone, Mac, most phones and players |
| OGG / Opus | about 1 MB | Browsers, Android, VLC |
| WAV | about 5–10 MB | Everything; best for editing |
Choose MP3 unless you know you need something else. Choose WAV if you will edit the recording in an audio program.
Tips for a clear recording
- Distance: speak about a hand’s width to 30 cm from the microphone. Too close sounds boomy, too far sounds hollow.
- Room: a room with curtains, carpet or furniture sounds better than a bare room or a bathroom.
- Test first: record ten seconds and listen. Watch the level bar: it should move clearly when you speak.
- Microphone choice: to use a headset or USB microphone, connect it before you start, and pick it in the browser’s site settings or your system’s sound settings if the wrong one is used.
- Stay on the page: keep the tab open and, on a phone, the screen on. The recording is only saved when you download it.
Common problems
- “Microphone access was blocked”: click the lock or microphone icon in the address bar, allow the microphone, and try again.
- “No microphone was found”: check that it is plugged in and not used exclusively by another app.
- Very quiet recording: move closer, or raise it afterwards with the Volume Booster.
After recording
Clean up remaining noise with Noise Reduction, cut the start and end with the Audio Cutter, or turn the recording into text with Audio to Text.
