Open spreadsheets quickly without Excel, Numbers or LibreOffice. Drop a workbook on the page, switch between its sheets and scroll through the rows. It is useful for checking exports, reports and CSV files on any device.
Supported spreadsheet formats
| Format | Made by | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| .xlsx, .xlsm | Excel 2007 and later | Most common format today |
| .xlsb | Excel binary workbook | Often used for very large files |
| .xls | Excel 97–2003 | Older reports and exports |
| .ods | LibreOffice Calc, OpenOffice | OpenDocument spreadsheet |
| .csv | Any database, bank or app export | Shown as a table |
What you see and what you do not
Cell values and basic formatting are displayed, and every worksheet in the workbook is available. The viewer shows the values saved in the file, the same numbers Excel showed when the file was last saved; formulas are not recalculated. Charts, pivot tables and macros are not executed, so a workbook built around a dashboard may look plain here even though the data is all there.
When it is useful
| Situation | Why the viewer helps |
|---|---|
| A report arrives by email on your phone | Read the figures without installing an office app |
| A bank, shop or CRM export | Check that the columns and rows look right before importing |
| An old .xls from a shared drive | See what is in it on a Mac or Chromebook |
| A workbook from an unknown sender | Look at the data without running any macros |
Tips
- For CSV files, check whether the columns are split correctly. If everything is in one column, the file probably uses semicolons; CSV to Excel detects the separator and gives you a proper .xlsx.
- Very large workbooks (hundreds of thousands of rows) are read into your device’s memory, so they can take a while on phones. A computer handles them better.
- Hidden rows, columns or sheets may still appear, because the viewer is built for reading the data rather than copying Excel’s view exactly.
- Need a single table as an image or PDF? Print it from the viewer’s toolbar and choose “Save as PDF”.
The spreadsheet is parsed in your browser and never uploaded, so salary lists, budgets and customer data stay on your device.
