What to expect

  • Text, pictures, shapes and tables are shown on each slide.
  • Animations, transitions, audio and video are not played.
  • Fonts that are not available in the browser are replaced with similar ones.
  • Complex charts and SmartArt may look simpler than in PowerPoint.

When it is useful

Situation How the viewer helps
A deck arrives by email before a meeting Read it on your phone without installing an app
A .ppsx “slide show” file that opens straight into presenting See the slides one by one instead
Lecture slides on a Chromebook No Office licence needed
An old .ppt from an archive Check what is in it on a Mac or Linux
A presentation from someone you do not know Look at it without running any macros

Tips for reading slides

  • Build-up slides (where bullets appear one by one) are shown in their final state, with everything visible at once. That is usually what you want when reading.
  • Text that overflows its box or lines that break differently are a sign of a replaced font; the words themselves are the same.
  • If a slide looks empty, it may only hold a video or an embedded object, which is not played here.
  • Use full screen in the viewer’s toolbar for a cleaner view of each slide.

Sharing slides

To share a single slide as a picture, open the presentation in PowerPoint or Google Slides and export it, or print it to PDF and use PDF to JPG. To send the whole deck to someone without PowerPoint, a PDF export from your presentation app is the safest format.

The presentation is opened in your browser and never uploaded, which matters for pitch decks, financial results and internal plans.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Microsoft PowerPoint installed?

No. The slides are rendered by JavaScript in your browser, so it works on Chromebooks, shared computers, tablets and phones.

Will animations and videos play?

No. Slides are shown as static pages. Transitions, animations and embedded videos are not played.

Do the slides look exactly like in PowerPoint?

Text, images, shapes and tables usually look very close. Unusual fonts are replaced with similar ones, and complex charts or SmartArt may look different.

Is my presentation uploaded?

No. The file is opened on your device and never sent to a server.

Are macros in .pptm files run?

No. Only the slide content is shown; macros are never executed.

Can I see the speaker notes?

The viewer is built to show the slides themselves. If you need the notes, open the file in PowerPoint, Keynote or Google Slides.
