Compress JPG, PNG and WebP images in your browser, or shrink them under a target size like 100 KB. Batch, free, no sign-up, and nothing is uploaded.
Runs in your browser. Your files are never uploaded. How it works
Compress by
Compress Image makes JPG, PNG and WebP files smaller, right in your browser. Choose a compression level, or set a maximum size such as 100 KB for upload forms, and download the results one by one or in a ZIP file.
How to compress images
Click Choose images or drop JPG, PNG or WebP files onto the page.
Choose how to compress:
Quality: pick Light, Recommended or Strong.
Target size: enter the maximum size in KB, for example 100.
Click Compress. Each image shows its size before and after.
Compression options
Option
What it does
Light
High quality (JPG/WebP quality 85%); small but safe savings
Recommended
Quality 75%; the best balance for most photos
Strong
Quality 60%; smallest files, visible on close inspection
Target size
Highest quality that fits under the size you enter
Reduce PNG colours
Up to 256 colours; much smaller PNGs with transparency kept
Format
Keep the original format, or save as JPG, WebP or PNG
JPG files are encoded with an optimised JPEG encoder, which produces smaller files than a typical camera or app at the same quality. PNG files are re-packed losslessly to remove wasted space.
Private by design
Your images are compressed on your own device and never uploaded. See how it works to verify it.
Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded?
No. Compression runs in your browser with WebAssembly image encoders. Your images never leave your device.
How much smaller will my images get?
Photos straight from a phone or camera often shrink by 50–80% at the Recommended level with little visible difference. Images that were already optimised shrink less; if a result would be bigger, the original is kept.
How do I compress an image to 100 KB?
Choose Target size and enter 100. The tool lowers the quality step by step until the image fits, and only reduces its dimensions if quality alone is not enough. The result is never larger than the size you enter (1 KB = 1024 bytes).
What does Reduce PNG colours do?
It limits the PNG to at most 256 carefully chosen colours, which often makes it 60–80% smaller while keeping transparency. It works best for graphics, icons and screenshots. Turn it off for lossless compression.
Why is PNG not available for target size?
PNG cannot be squeezed to an exact size. In target size mode, PNG images are saved as JPG, or as WebP if they have transparent areas.
Is the metadata removed?
Yes. Compressed images do not keep EXIF data, so the GPS location and camera details are removed, which also saves a little space.
