Blur Face finds the faces in a photo automatically and hides them with a blur, pixelation, a solid colour or an emoji. Click a face to leave it visible, drag a box to hide anything else such as name tags, number plates or screens, and save the photo at full resolution without its location data. It runs in your browser, so the photo is never uploaded.
How to blur faces in a photo
- Click Choose a photo or drop it on the page. A small AI face detector finds the faces and hides them straight away.
- Pick how to hide them under Hide with, set the Strength, and choose an Oval or Rectangle shape.
- Click any face you want to keep unblurred. Click it again to hide it again.
- Drag on the photo to hide any other area the detector did not cover.
- Choose Save as and click Download. The file is saved with
-blurredin its name, such asteam-blurred.jpg.
Ways to hide a face
| Hide with | Looks like | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Blur | Soft, natural-looking blur | Social posts, news-style photos |
| Pixelate (mosaic) | Large square blocks | A clear, deliberate censoring look |
| Solid colour | A filled oval or box in any colour | Full cover for documents and evidence photos |
| Emoji | A friendly emoji over the face | Family and school photos shared online |
Strength sets how strong the blur or how large the mosaic blocks are. Solid colour and Emoji cover the face completely, so they have no strength setting.
Hide more than faces
Drag a box anywhere on the photo to hide it the same way as the faces. Use it for:
- Number plates on cars
- Name tags, ID badges and school logos on uniforms
- Computer and phone screens, documents and whiteboards in the background
- House numbers and street signs that give away a location
Group photos and small faces
The detector looks for faces of many sizes, including people at the back of a group photo. For large photos, it runs a second, sharper pass so distant faces are not missed. Even so, check the result before you share it: faces in profile, turned away, very small, blurred by motion or partly covered may not be found. Drag a box over any you see.
Saving and privacy
The photo is saved at its full resolution as the same format, JPG, PNG or WebP. Location, camera model and other metadata from the original file are not copied, so the saved picture does not reveal where it was taken. To check or strip metadata from other photos, use Remove EXIF.
Tips
- For photos of children or anything sensitive, choose Solid colour or Emoji, or a high Strength, so the face is fully hidden.
- To cut out a person instead, use Remove Background. To cover text in a picture, see Remove Text from Image.
