Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded?

No. Images are decoded and re-encoded by your browser and saved straight to your device. Nothing is sent to a server.

Which formats can I convert?

You can save as JPG, PNG or WebP. You can open JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF and HEIC files. AVIF needs a current browser.

What happens to transparent areas when I convert to JPG?

JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas become white. Convert to PNG or WebP to keep transparency.

Are animated GIFs supported?

Only the first frame is converted. Animation is not kept.

Is the image metadata kept?

No. Converted images have no EXIF data, so the camera model, date and GPS location are removed. Photos are still turned the right way up.

Which format should I pick?

JPG for photos that need to open everywhere, PNG for screenshots, logos and images with transparency, WebP for websites, where it gives the smallest files.
