Make a photo collage for Instagram in the right shape from the start. This page opens with the Portrait 4:5 (Instagram) size, which takes up the most room in the feed. Add up to 12 photos, pick a layout, and save a full-resolution JPG ready to post. No watermark, and your photos are never uploaded.
How to make an Instagram collage
- Click Choose 2 to 12 photos or drop them onto the page. iPhone HEIC photos work too.
- Size is set to Portrait 4:5 (Instagram). Switch to Square 1:1 (Instagram post) or Story 9:16 if you need those.
- Pick a Layout. Grid suits 4 or 6 photos; One big, others small puts the first photo in front.
- Set Spacing, Corners and Background to match your style.
- Drag inside a photo to frame it, and scroll to zoom. Click two photos to swap them.
- Leave Save as on JPG and click Download. Then post

Instagram sizes
| Format | Size option | Saved at |
|---|---|---|
| Feed post, portrait | Portrait 4:5 (Instagram) | 2160 × 2700 px |
| Feed post, square | Square 1:1 (Instagram post) | 2160 × 2160 px |
| Story or Reel cover | Story 9:16 | 2160 × 3840 px |
Instagram shows posts at 1080 pixels wide. The collage is twice that size, so it stays sharp after Instagram scales it down.
Tips for a good collage
- Keep it simple: on a phone screen, 3 to 6 photos are easier to see than 12.
- Use a theme: photos from one day or with similar colours look calmer together.
- Thin white spacing gives a clean look; set Spacing to 0 for a seamless grid.
- Stories: leave space at the top and bottom free of faces and text, where Instagram shows its own buttons.
- Carousel posts: if you need separate images instead of one collage, crop each photo to 4:5 with Crop Image.
Common problems
- A face is cut off: drag the photo inside its frame, or scroll to zoom out.
- Some photos were not added: a collage holds up to 12 photos; the rest are left out.
- The file is too large to send: shrink it with Compress Image.
