Remove Background cuts the subject out of a photo and removes everything behind it. Keep the background transparent, or put white, black, a colour or another picture behind it, and save the result at full resolution as PNG, WebP or JPG. It runs in your browser, so your photo is never uploaded.
How to remove a background
- Click Choose an image or drop a JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC photo on the page.
- Wait while the background is removed. The first time, the model is downloaded and cached.
- Compare Original and Result side by side and check the edges.
- Pick a Background and a Save as format, then click Download. The file is saved with
-no-bgadded to its name, such asportrait-no-bg.png.
Best or Fast
| Best | Fast | |
|---|---|---|
| Works on | Any subject: people, products, pets, cars, plants | People and portraits |
| Fine hair and edges | Kept in detail | Good on hair, less on objects |
| Browser | Needs WebGPU: recent Chrome or Edge on a computer, Safari 26 | Any modern browser, phones included |
| First download | About 140 MB | About 26 MB |
The tool picks Best when your browser supports it and Fast when it does not. You can switch at any time; each result is kept, so switching back is instant.
Backgrounds and formats
| Background | Good for |
|---|---|
| Transparent | Logos, stickers, designs, slides |
| White | Product photos for online shops and marketplaces |
| Black or a colour | Profile pictures, social posts, banners |
| Your own image | Placing the subject in a new scene |
Save as PNG to keep transparency, WebP for a smaller file with transparency, or JPG for the smallest file with a solid background.
Tips for a clean cut-out
- Use a photo where the subject is in focus and clearly separated from the background.
- For products and objects, use Best. Fast is trained on people and can miss parts of other subjects.
- Need a smaller or square picture afterwards? Use Crop Image or Resize Image.
- To remove words or a caption rather than the background, use Remove Text from Image.
Next steps
A cut-out logo can be traced into a vector with PNG to SVG, and a small product photo can be enlarged with the Image Upscaler.
