Remove Text from Image

Text remover for images: erase words, writing and captions from screenshots and photos. The background is rebuilt, with AI on photos. Free, nothing uploaded.

Runs in your browser. Your files are never uploaded. How it works

Remove Text from Image is a free text remover: it erases words, writing and captions from a picture and fills the space with the background, right in your browser. Click a line to remove it, or remove all the text at once; plain backgrounds are filled exactly, and photos or patterns are rebuilt by an AI model that runs on your device.

How to remove text from an image

  1. Click Choose an image or drop a JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC file. The text is found automatically.
  2. Click a dashed box to remove that line, or click Remove all text.
  3. If a filled area looks off, click it and choose another Background fill.
  4. Click Download image.

Background fill methods

Method Used for Speed
Solid colour Screenshots, slides, flat designs Instant
Smooth gradient Banners, gradient posters, soft shadows Instant
AI rebuild Photos, patterns, text across object edges About 2 s per line on a computer; 28 MB download the first time

The tool picks the method automatically by measuring the background around each line. It only uses AI when a simple fill would leave a visible edge.

Good uses

  • Clean a screenshot before using it in a presentation or documentation.
  • Remove placeholder text from a template or mockup you made.
  • Prepare your own poster or product photo for new text (then use Edit Text in Image).

Only edit images you own or are allowed to change. Do not remove watermarks or credits from other people’s images, and do not alter documents such as receipts or IDs.

Private by design

Your images are processed on your own device and never uploaded. See how it works.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove text from an image?

Choose the image, then click the dashed box around a line to erase it, or click Remove all text. Check the result and click Download image. The background behind the text is filled in automatically.

Is my image uploaded?

No. Finding the text and rebuilding the background both happen in your browser, including the AI step. The image stays on your device.

How is the background filled in?

Plain colours and smooth gradients are filled directly, which is instant and exact. When a pattern, photo or object edge runs behind the text, an AI model rebuilds that area from the surrounding image. Each line shows which method was used, and you can switch it.

Why does the first AI fill take longer?

The AI model (about 28 MB) is downloaded the first time it is needed and then cached by your browser. Each AI fill then takes about 2 seconds on a computer and longer on a phone.

Can it remove watermarks?

Only remove text and logos from images you own or have permission to edit. Removing a watermark or credit from someone else's image can break copyright law.

What if some text is not found?

Use Add text box and drag a rectangle over it. Text is found automatically in English; other text can always be marked by hand.
