Edit picture text online: click the text in a photo or screenshot, type new words, and keep the same font and colour. Free, no watermark, nothing uploaded.

Runs in your browser. Your files are never uploaded. How it works

Edit Text in Image lets you change the words in a picture: click a line of text, type the new version, and the tool erases the old text and draws yours in a matching font, size and colour. It runs in your browser, so the image never leaves your device.

Edit Text in Image is an online image text editor for pictures where the text is baked in: JPG and PNG files, screenshots, exported slides, photos of signs and posters. You change the words; the tool takes care of erasing, filling in the background and matching the lettering.

How to edit text in an image

  1. Click Choose an image or drop a JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC file. The text is found automatically; the first time, the recognition engine (about 15 MB) is downloaded.
  2. Click a dashed box around a line of text.
  3. Type the new text. Adjust font, size, colour, alignment or letter spacing if needed.
  4. Repeat for other lines, then click Download image.

Text that was not found automatically can be marked with Add text box: drag a rectangle over it. Each line shows how its background was filled (solid colour, gradient or AI); you can switch it under Background fill. To only erase text, use Remove Text from Image.

Edit text in a photo vs a screenshot

Screenshots, slides, graphics Photos (signs, products, posters)
Background behind the text Flat colour or gradient: erased exactly Rebuilt by AI from the surrounding image
Font match Usually very close Close for printed text; perspective and lighting are not copied
Best tip Take the screenshot at 100% zoom Use a straight-on photo; see edit text in photo

What to expect

Image Result
App and website screenshots, slides Very clean
Posters and banners with plain or gradient backgrounds Clean
Text on photos, textures or patterns Background rebuilt by AI; usually good, sometimes a faint patch
Curved, rotated or perspective text Not supported yet
Exact brand or decorative fonts Closest of eight common fonts

The downloaded image keeps the original format (JPG stays JPG, PNG stays PNG; HEIC is saved as JPG).

Use it responsibly

This tool is for your own images: fixing typos in screenshots, updating dates and prices on your own posters, translating graphics, editing mockups. Do not use it to alter receipts, invoices, IDs, certificates, financial statements or anything presented as evidence.

Private by design

Your images are edited on your own device and never uploaded. See how it works.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded?

No. Finding, erasing and rewriting the text all happen in your browser. The image stays on your device.

Which images work best?

Screenshots, slides, posters and graphics with text on a plain colour or a smooth gradient: the old text is erased completely. On photos and patterns an AI model rebuilds the background behind the text (about 28 MB, downloaded the first time it is needed); results there are good but not always perfect.

How is the font matched?

The tool tries eight common fonts in regular and bold, picks the one whose letters overlap the original best, and measures the size, colour and letter spacing. You can change any of these. Brand and decorative fonts cannot be matched exactly.

Which languages are supported?

Choose under Text language. Auto reads English, about 45 other languages written in the Latin alphabet (French, German, Spanish, Polish, Czech, Vietnamese and more), Chinese and Japanese; Chinese and Japanese are switched to a larger model automatically (about 18 MB, once). Korean, Russian and other Cyrillic languages, Arabic, Persian and Urdu, Hindi and other Devanagari languages, Thai, Greek, Tamil and Telugu each have their own model (about 7 MB, downloaded once when you pick it). New text is written in a matching font for the script (Noto fonts for Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hindi, Thai, Tamil and Telugu). If a line is missed, use Add text box.

Can I just remove text?

Yes. Select a line and click Remove text; only the background is left.

How do I edit text in an image?

Choose the image, click the dashed box around the line you want to change, type the new text and click Download image. The old text is erased and the new text is drawn in the matched font, size and colour.

Can I keep the same font?

The tool compares the original letters with nine common fonts in regular and bold and picks the closest, then matches size, colour and letter spacing. Text set in Arial, Helvetica, Roboto, Open Sans, Montserrat and similar fonts matches closely; brand and decorative fonts cannot be copied exactly, but you can choose another font from the list.

Is there a watermark?

No. The downloaded image has no watermark, and there is no sign-up or limit.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes, it runs in mobile browsers such as Safari and Chrome, including iPhone HEIC photos. Large photos are scaled to about 16 megapixels, and the AI background fill is slower on a phone than on a computer.

Can I edit text in a photo without Photoshop?

Yes. Open the photo here, click the text and type the new words. The tool erases the old letters, rebuilds the background (with AI on busy photos) and draws the new text in a matching font. No software, account or upload is needed.

What is an image text editor?

A tool that changes the words already printed in a flattened image, such as a JPG or PNG, where the text is no longer a separate layer. It has to remove the old letters, fill in what was behind them and draw new letters that look like the old ones.

What should I not use this for?

Do not change documents you have no right to change, such as receipts, invoices, IDs, certificates, bank statements or screenshots used as evidence. Altering them can be fraud.
