Barcode Generator draws scannable barcodes in your browser: retail codes like EAN-13 and UPC-A, ISBN for books, ITF-14 for cartons, Code 128 and Code 39 for labels, and 2D codes such as Data Matrix, PDF417, Aztec and QR Code. The check digit is added for you, and you can download PNG, SVG or JPG, or a ZIP of up to 1,000 barcodes at once. Nothing is uploaded.
How to make a barcode
- Pick a Barcode type, such as EAN-13 or Code 128.
- Type the value under Data. The tool checks it as you type and explains what is wrong, for example a letter in an EAN number or the wrong length.
- Adjust Size, Bar height, Bars and Background colours, and choose whether to Show the numbers under the bars.
- Download the barcode as PNG, SVG or JPG.

Check digits and input checks
EAN, UPC, ISBN, ITF-14 and GS1 DataBar end in a check digit that scanners use to catch misreads. Type the number without it and the tool works it out. Type the full number and the tool verifies the last digit; if it is wrong, you see the correct one, so a typo does not end up printed on a label.
Each type also has its own input rules. EAN and UPC take digits only and a set length, Code 39 takes capital letters, digits and a few symbols, and Code 128 accepts most keyboard characters. If a value cannot be encoded, the tool says why instead of drawing a broken barcode.
Options
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Size | Scale from 1× to 8×. Larger sizes give more pixels for print |
| Bar height | Short, normal or tall bars for 1D barcodes |
| Show the numbers under the bars | The human-readable text below the code |
| Bars and Background | Any colours. Keep dark bars on a light background so scanners read it |
| Transparent background | For placing the barcode on a coloured label or package design |
Make many barcodes at once
Open Make many barcodes at once, paste one value per line (up to 1,000) and click Download ZIP. Every valid value becomes a PNG file named after its value, using the type and options you have set. Any value that is not valid for the chosen type is skipped and listed with the reason in errors.txt, so you can fix it and run it again.
Tips for barcodes that scan
- Print at a good size and test with a phone or a scanner before printing a whole batch. You can check a file with QR Code Scanner, which also reads 1D barcodes.
- Leave a clear margin around the code. Text or edges too close to the bars can stop it scanning.
- Avoid light bars, red bars or low-contrast colours. Many scanners use red light and cannot see red bars.
- Use SVG for print work so the bars stay sharp when the design is scaled.
