Crop Video

Crop a video in your browser: drag a box or pick square, 9:16 for Reels and TikTok, 4:5 or 16:9. MP4, MOV, WebM. Free, no watermark, nothing uploaded.

Runs in your browser. Your files are never uploaded. How it works

Crop Video cuts away the parts of the picture you don’t want: black bars, a messy background, or the sides of a landscape video you want to post as a square or vertical clip. Drag a box on the video or pick a shape, and the crop is done in your browser. The file is not uploaded, and there is no watermark.

How to crop a video

  1. Click Choose a video and drop an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV file.
  2. Pick a Shape, or leave it on Free to draw any box.
  3. Drag on the picture to place the area you want to keep. The line under the shape list shows the exact size, for example “Keeps 606×1080 px of 1920×1080”.
  4. Click Crop video, play the result, then Download.

Shapes

Shape Use it for
Square 1:1 Instagram feed, profile videos
Portrait 9:16 Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Stories
Portrait 4:5 Instagram and Facebook feed
Landscape 16:9 YouTube, presentations
Free Removing black bars or a border

When you pick a fixed shape, the box keeps that shape while you drag, and it starts centred on the picture.

Cropping always cuts part of the picture away. To change the shape and keep the whole picture, with a blurred background or bars filling the space, use Resize Video or Make a Video Square.

Tips for a good crop

  • Landscape to vertical throws away most of the frame. Before you crop, play the video and check that the person or object stays inside the 9:16 slice for the whole clip. The crop box does not move, so it cannot follow someone walking across the frame.
  • Black bars from a phone screen recording or an old 4:3 video: use Free and drag the box just inside the bars.
  • Start with a sharp source. A crop keeps only part of the pixels, so a 4K or 1080p original gives a much cleaner vertical clip than a 720p one.
  • Width and height are rounded to even numbers, because video encoders need them. The difference is at most one pixel.

What you get

The result is an MP4 with H.264 video and AAC sound, which plays on every phone and site. Browsers that cannot make MP4 save a WebM instead. The bitrate follows the size of the area you kept, so a small crop gives a smaller file. To shorten the clip as well, use Trim Video; to make it fit an upload limit, use Video Compressor.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a video vertical for Reels or TikTok?

Choose Portrait 9:16, drag the box over the part you want to keep, then click Crop video.

Does cropping change the quality?

The kept area keeps its full sharpness; it is re-encoded at a bitrate that matches its size.

Can I crop and trim at once?

Crop here, then trim the result with Trim Video.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The file is processed in your browser, on your device, and never sent anywhere.

Why is my cropped video 606×1080 and not 1080×1920?

Cropping only removes pixels; it never enlarges the picture. A 9:16 slice of a 1920×1080 video is about 606×1080. Reels, TikTok and Shorts accept that size and scale it to the screen.

It says the whole frame is selected. What does that mean?

The box covers the entire picture, so there is nothing to cut. Drag a smaller box on the video, or pick a shape, then click Crop video again.

Is the sound kept?

Yes. The audio track is kept and plays in sync with the cropped picture.
