Resize Video changes a video’s size or its shape: square 1:1, vertical 9:16, portrait 4:5, landscape 16:9 or 4:3, or any width and height. The whole picture stays visible, and the empty space is filled with a blurred copy of the video, black or white bars, or you crop to fill. You can also scale to 1080p, 720p, 480p or 360p. It runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
How to resize a video
- Choose a video: MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV.
- Pick the Shape, or Same shape, new size to only change the resolution.
- Pick the Size: keep the resolution, or 1080p, 720p, 480p or 360p. For Custom, type the width and height.
- When the shape changes, choose what fills the space.
- Click Resize video, check the result, then Download.
The new size is shown before you start, for example “1920×1080 becomes 1080×1080”.
Sizes for social media
| Where | Shape | Size at 1080p |
|---|---|---|
| Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts | Vertical 9:16 | 1080×1920 |
| Instagram feed (tallest) | Portrait 4:5 | 1080×1350 |
| Instagram, Facebook square post | Square 1:1 | 1080×1080 |
| YouTube, a TV, a laptop | Landscape 16:9 | 1920×1080 |
Filling the space
- Blurred background: a soft, enlarged copy of the video fills the empty space. The usual look for landscape clips posted as Reels or Stories.
- Black bars / White bars: a plain border, like a letterbox.
- Crop to fill: no border; the picture is enlarged until it fills the frame and the edges are cut off. To choose exactly which part stays, use Crop Video.
- Stretch to fit: fills the frame by distorting the picture. Rarely what you want, but there if you need it.
Good to know
- The result is MP4 (H.264 and AAC), or WebM in browsers that cannot make MP4. The sound is kept.
- Every frame is re-encoded, so long videos take a while. Keep the tab open until it is done.
- For a smaller file at an exact size, use the Video Compressor.
