Add Music to Video

Add background music to a video or replace its sound in your browser. Set the volume and start time; the picture is not re-encoded. Free, nothing uploaded.

Runs in your browser. Your files are never uploaded. How it works

Add Music to Video puts a song, a voice-over or any audio file on a video. Keep the original sound with the music underneath, or replace it completely. Set the music’s volume and the moment it starts, let it repeat to the end and fade out. The picture is copied without re-encoding, so the quality does not change. It runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

How to add music to a video

  1. Choose a video: MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV.
  2. Choose the Music or audio file: MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC or OGG.
  3. Under Original sound, pick Keep it, music underneath or Replace it with the music.
  4. Set the Music volume (and the Original volume when you keep it).
  5. Type when the Music starts at, and choose whether it repeats and fades out.
  6. Click Add music, check the result, then Download.

Settings for common videos

Video Original sound Music volume
Vlog, tutorial or talking to camera Keep it 25–35%
Holiday clips, travel, sport Keep it 50–75%
Slideshow, timelapse, screen capture Replace it 100%
Video with noise you want gone Replace it 100%

Good to know

  • The result is MP4 with AAC sound for H.264, HEVC, VP9 and AV1 videos, and WebM with Opus for VP8 videos.
  • Because the picture is not re-encoded, a long video is done in seconds, not minutes.
  • To mix several sound tracks first, use the Audio Mixer. To cut a song down, use the Audio Cutter. To remove the sound only, see Mute Video.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add music to a video?

Choose the video, then the music file. Pick whether to keep the original sound with the music underneath or replace it, set the volume and start time, and click Add music. Check the result in the player and download it.

Does it lower the video quality?

No. The picture is copied exactly as it is, without re-encoding, so the quality stays the same and it is fast. Only the sound is newly encoded.

The song is shorter than the video. What happens?

With Repeat the music to the end ticked, the song loops until the video ends. Untick it and the music stops when the song ends. A longer song is cut at the end of the video.

How loud should the music be?

Under talking, 25–50% keeps the voice clear. For a video without speech, or when you replace the sound, use 100%.

Is there a watermark?

No. There is no watermark, no sign-up and no limit.

Can I use any song?

Technically, any audio file works. Platforms such as YouTube, Instagram and TikTok may mute or block videos that use copyrighted music, so use music you have the rights to, or the platform's own music library.
