Record your screen with sound: your voice from the microphone, the sound of a browser tab, or both mixed into one track. It works in your browser on a computer, with no install, no watermark and no time limit. The recording stays on your device.
How to record your screen with audio
- Leave Record my microphone and Record the sound of the tab or screen ticked. Untick either one if you do not need it.
- Click Start recording.
- In the share dialog, choose what to record. For the sound of a video, a meeting or a game in the browser, choose Chrome tab and make sure Also share tab audio is on.
- Allow the microphone when the browser asks.
- After the 3-second countdown, recording starts. Use Pause if you need a break.
- Click Stop, play the video back to check the sound, and click Download.
Which sound you get
| You share | Windows (Chrome, Edge) | Mac (Chrome, Edge) | Firefox, Safari |
|---|---|---|---|
| A browser tab | Tab sound | Tab sound | No sound shared |
| A window | No sound shared | No sound shared | No sound shared |
| The entire screen | System sound, if ticked | No sound shared | No sound shared |
| Microphone | Yes | Yes | Yes |
On a Mac, the most reliable way to record computer sound is to play it in a tab and share that tab.
Tips for clear sound
- Wear headphones. Without them, the microphone picks up your speakers and you hear an echo.
- Test first. Record ten seconds, play it back, and check that both your voice and the tab sound are there.
- Quiet room: the microphone uses the browser’s echo cancellation and noise suppression, but a quiet room still helps most.
- Meetings: tell other people before you record a call.
After recording
- The file is MP4 in recent Chrome, Edge and Safari, and WebM elsewhere. Convert WebM with Video Converter.
- Turn the spoken part into text with Audio to Text.
- Make a long recording smaller with Video Compressor.
