Scan a barcode with your phone or computer camera, or from a photo, without installing an app. The scanner reads retail barcodes (EAN, UPC), logistics and label codes (Code 128, Code 39, Code 93, ITF, Codabar, GS1 DataBar) and 2D codes such as Data Matrix and PDF417, and shows the value with a Copy button. Everything runs in your browser.
Scan a barcode with the camera
- Choose Camera under Scan from and click Start camera.
- Allow camera access. On a phone the rear camera is used; on a computer with more than one camera, pick it under Camera.
- Hold the barcode flat and steady in the frame. The value appears as soon as it is read.
To scan from a photo, keep Image or screenshot and choose, drop or paste the picture. If the photo has several barcodes, such as a shipping label, all of them are found and outlined.
What you get from each type
| Barcode | Content you see |
|---|---|
| EAN-13, UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN-8 | The product number (GTIN), for example to check a label or look up the item |
| ISBN (EAN-13 starting 978 or 979) | The book’s ISBN |
| Code 128, Code 39, Code 93 | The text or serial number on the label |
| ITF, GS1 DataBar | Carton and product numbers |
| Data Matrix, PDF417 | The stored text, which can be long |
Tips for a quick read
- Good, even light helps more than getting very close. Avoid glare on glossy packaging.
- Long, thin barcodes read best when they fill most of the width of the frame.
- If the camera struggles, take a sharp photo and scan the image instead.
