GIF Maker

Turn photos into an animated GIF in your browser. Reorder frames, set speed, size, loop and boomerang. JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC. No upload, no watermark.

Runs in your browser. Your files are never uploaded. How it works

GIF Maker turns a set of pictures into an animated GIF. Add 2 to 300 JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC images, drag them into order, choose the speed, width and how many times it repeats, and download the GIF. A boomerang option plays the frames forwards then backwards. Everything runs in your browser, so your photos are never uploaded, and there is no watermark.

How to make a GIF from images

  1. Click Choose images and select two or more pictures, or drop them on the page. They are sorted by file name.
  2. Drag frames to reorder them, click × to remove one, or click Add images to add more.
  3. Set Time per frame, Width, Different shapes, Background and Repeat.
  4. Tick Play forwards then backwards for a boomerang effect, if you like.
  5. Click Make GIF, check the preview, then click Download GIF. The file is saved as animation.gif.

Settings

Setting Choices Tip
Time per frame 50 ms to 3 s 80–150 ms for motion, 500 ms–1 s for a slideshow
Width 240 to 1080 px 480 px is a good size for chat apps; larger widths make bigger files
Different shapes Fit inside, Fill and crop Fill and crop avoids borders when photos are mixed portrait and landscape
Background Any colour Fills the space around pictures with Fit inside, and transparent areas
Repeat Forever, Play once, 3 times Forever is what most people expect from a GIF
Play forwards then backwards On or off Smooth back-and-forth loop

What to make with it

  • A slideshow GIF from holiday or event photos
  • A short animation from drawings or sketches, one frame per picture
  • A before and after GIF from two photos
  • A product shown from several angles
  • A stop-motion clip from a burst of phone photos

Keep the file small

GIF files grow quickly. Each frame is stored as a full picture with up to 256 colours, so a long, wide GIF of photos can be many megabytes. To keep it light:

  • Use fewer frames and a smaller Width. 480 px is plenty for most chats and websites.
  • Use pictures with simple backgrounds and fewer colours; drawings and screenshots compress better than photos.
  • Check the file size shown next to the preview before downloading, and try a smaller width if it is too large.

Frequently asked questions

How many pictures can I use?

From 2 to 300. They are put in order by file name, so photo-1, photo-2 and photo-10 come out in the right order, and you can drag frames to change it or remove any you do not want.

How do I make the GIF faster or slower?

Change Time per frame. 50 to 100 ms gives smooth, fast motion; 500 ms to 1 s suits a slideshow; up to 3 s per frame for a slow sequence of photos.

My pictures are different shapes. What happens?

The GIF uses the shape of the first picture. With Fit inside, other pictures are shown whole with the background colour around them. With Fill and crop, they fill the frame and the edges are cropped.

Can I make a boomerang GIF?

Yes. Tick Play forwards then backwards. The frames play to the end and back again, so the loop has no jump.

Is there a watermark?

No. The GIF has no watermark and is made in your browser. Your pictures are never uploaded.

Can I make a GIF from a video?

Use Video to GIF for that. It cuts a clip from an MP4, MOV or WebM video and turns it into a GIF.
