Colours, style and logo

QR Code Generator makes a QR code for a website, a Wi-Fi network, a contact card, an email, a phone call or text message, or plain text. Change the colours, round the dots, put your logo in the middle and download it as PNG, SVG or JPG. The codes are static: they never expire, need no account and work without this website.

How to make a QR code

  1. Choose what the code opens: Website, Text, Wi-Fi, Contact, Email or Phone / SMS.
  2. Fill in the fields. The preview updates as you type.
  3. Open Colours, style and logo to change the colour and background, choose a Dots and Corners style, or add a logo.
  4. Choose a Size: 512 px, 1024 px or 2048 px (print).
  5. Click PNG, SVG or JPG to download. Scan the code with your phone before you print it.

Static or dynamic QR code?

Many QR sites make “dynamic” codes: the code points to their server, which then redirects to your link. The code only works while their service and your subscription do. When a trial ends, printed codes can stop working.

Static (this tool) Dynamic (redirect service)
Expires Never Can stop when the plan ends
Needs an account No Usually
Works if the service closes Yes No
Edit after printing No Yes
Scan statistics No Yes

What you can put in a code

  • Website: any link.
  • Wi-Fi: network name, password, security type and a Hidden network option. Phones join with one tap. See Wi-Fi QR Code.
  • Contact: name, phone, email, company, job title and website as a vCard. See vCard QR Code.
  • Email, Phone / SMS and plain Text (up to about 1,500 characters).

Pick any colour for the code and background, or tick Transparent background. When you add a logo, the dots behind it are cleared and error correction switches to high, so the code still scans with part of it covered. See QR Code with Logo.

Common problems

  • The code does not scan: keep the code dark and the background light. The tool warns when the colours are too close, or when the code is lighter than its background.
  • Too small: print the code at least 2 cm (about 1 inch) wide, larger if people scan from a distance.
  • No quiet zone: the empty border around the code is part of it. Do not crop it or place the code right against other graphics.
  • Logo too big or busy: a simple, high-contrast logo works best. Remove it to check whether it is the cause.

Private by design

All work happens on your device. What you type and your logo are never sent to a server. You can check this yourself: see how it works.

Frequently asked questions

Do these QR codes expire?

No. The codes are static: your link or text is stored inside the pattern itself. There is no redirect through this website, so the code keeps working for as long as the content behind it does, even if this site went away.

Can I change the link after printing?

No. A static code cannot be edited, because the link is part of the pattern. If the address might change, point the code at a page you control and change that page instead, or make a new code.

Can I see how many people scanned my code?

No. Static codes have no scan statistics, because scanning goes straight to your content. If you need counts, add tracking parameters to your own link and check them in your website analytics.

Which format should I download?

SVG for print and design programs, because it stays sharp at any size. PNG for websites, documents and slides, and when you want a transparent background. JPG only where PNG is not accepted; it always has a solid background.

Is the data I type uploaded?

No. The code is made by your browser on your device. Wi-Fi passwords, contact details and logos are never sent to a server.
