Crop an image into a circle for a profile picture, an avatar or a round logo. Choose a photo, move the round crop area over the face, and download a PNG with transparent corners. The photo is cropped in your browser and never uploaded.
How to crop an image into a circle
- Click Choose an image or drop a photo onto the page. JPG, PNG, WebP and HEIC from an iPhone all work.
- Shape is already set to Circle, and the crop area is locked to 1:1.
- Drag the circle over the part you want. Drag a corner handle to make it bigger or smaller.
- To set the size exactly, type it in Width (px). The height follows automatically.
- Leave Save as on Same format (PNG or WebP keep the corners transparent) and click Download.
Sizes for profile pictures
| Use | Suggested circle size |
|---|---|
| Social media profile pictures | 400 to 1000 px |
| Team and staff pages | 400 to 600 px |
| Email signatures | 150 to 300 px |
| Round logos for documents and slides | 800 px or more |
These are practical sizes, not rules. A bigger crop can always be made smaller later with Resize Image.
Tips
- Centre the face: leave a little space above the head; most sites crop a bit of the edge.
- Fine positioning: click the circle and use the arrow keys to move it by 1 pixel, or by 10 with Shift held.
- Sideways photo: use the rotate buttons before you place the circle.
- Need a small file: make the PNG lighter with Compress Image.
- iPhone photos: HEIC files open directly. If one does not, convert it first with HEIC to JPG.
Common problems
- White corners: the file was saved as JPG. Choose PNG or WebP instead.
- The circle is too small to see much: drag a corner handle outwards, or type a larger Width (px).
- The site shows a square: some sites cannot show transparency. Upload a square crop instead; switch Shape to Rectangle with ratio 1:1.
