PNG to SVG turns a pixel image into a vector SVG by tracing it into shapes. Choose a mode for logos and clip art, black and white cut files or illustrations, set the detail level and the number of colours, and remove the background in one click. Compare the original and the SVG side by side, then download the file or copy the SVG code. It runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
How to convert PNG to SVG
- Click Choose an image or drop a PNG, JPG or WebP file on the page.
- Pick an Image type: logo, icon or clip art; black and white; or illustration or photo.
- Set Colours (or Threshold in black and white mode) and Detail.
- Keep Remove the background on if you only want the artwork.
- Compare Original (pixels) with SVG (vector), then click Download SVG or Copy SVG code.
Image types
| Image type | What you get | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Logo, icon or clip art | Flat colour shapes, 2 to 64 colours | Logos, icons, stickers, simple drawings |
| Black and white | One colour of shapes, set with a threshold slider | Cricut, Silhouette, laser and vinyl cutters, stencils, signatures |
| Illustration or photo | Many colours, more shapes | Drawings with shading, poster-style versions of photos |
Detail
| Detail | Effect |
|---|---|
| Smooth (fewer points) | Rounder curves, smaller file, small specks dropped |
| Normal | A balance for most images |
| Fine (follows every edge) | Keeps small details, more shapes, larger file |
The shape count and SVG file size are shown under the preview, so you can see what each setting costs.
How the tracing works
The tool reduces the image to the colours you chose, finds the outline of each colour area and replaces it with smooth curves. Small images are enlarged 2× before tracing, which gives smoother curves on small icons. Very large images are traced from a working copy (up to 1200 px on the long side) and the SVG keeps the width and height of your original. With Remove the background, the shapes that form the background are left out, so the SVG has a transparent background.
What to expect
- Clean logos and icons trace very well: crisp edges, few shapes, small files.
- Blurry, low-resolution or JPG-compressed images give rougher edges. Start from the largest, sharpest copy you have. AI Image Upscaler can help with small logos.
- Photos become posterised art. They will not look like the photo, and the file can be large.
- Text in a logo becomes shapes, not editable text.
Tips
- Remove a busy background first with Remove Background, then trace in Logo mode.
- For cut files, check the preview for tiny islands of colour. Smooth detail removes most of them.
- To go the other way, from SVG or vector to a pixel image, use Image Converter.
