A Wi-Fi QR code lets guests join your network by pointing their phone camera at it. Enter the network name and password, download the code and print it for a guest room, café or office. The code is made in your browser and never expires.
How to make a Wi-Fi QR code
- Wi-Fi is already selected. Type the Network name (SSID) exactly as it appears in the Wi-Fi list, including capitals and spaces.
- Type the Password.
- Choose the Security: WPA / WPA2 / WPA3 for nearly all routers, WEP for very old ones, or None (open network).
- Tick Hidden network if your network does not appear in the list.
- Choose a size and click PNG, SVG or JPG. Test it with your phone before you print.
Where to find the network details
| You need | Where to look |
|---|---|
| Network name | The Wi-Fi list on your phone, or the sticker on the router |
| Password | The router sticker, or the router’s settings page |
| Security type | Router settings; if unsure, choose WPA / WPA2 / WPA3 |
If the router has two networks, such as a 2.4 GHz and a 5 GHz one with different names, make a code for the one guests should use.
Tips for printing
- Add a line of text under the code, such as “Scan to join the Wi-Fi”, plus the network name for people whose phones cannot scan.
- Size: at least 3 cm (about 1.2 inches) wide on a table card or sign. Use 2048 px (print) or SVG for large prints.
- Guest network: if your router has one, share that instead of your main network. Changing the guest password later does not affect your own devices.
- Keep it dark on light. Coloured codes are fine if the contrast is strong; the tool warns if it is too low.
Common problems
- The phone does not offer to join: check that the network name matches exactly, including upper and lower case.
- “Incorrect password”: the password is case-sensitive. Retype it and make a new code.
- Hidden network will not connect: make sure Hidden network is ticked.
