This page opens with Barcode type set to EAN-13, the 13-digit barcode on retail products in most of the world. Type the 12 digits of your product number and the tool adds the check digit, draws the barcode with the numbers underneath, and lets you download PNG, SVG or JPG. It runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
Make an EAN-13 barcode
- Type the first 12 digits under Data, such as
590123412345. - The tool adds the check digit and shows the full number, here
5901234123457. - Choose Size, Bar height and colours, then download the barcode.
How an EAN-13 number is built
| Part | Digits | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| GS1 prefix | First 2–3 | The GS1 office that issued the number, not the country where the product is made |
| Company number | Next several | Your company, from GS1 |
| Product number | Next few | Chosen by you for each product |
| Check digit | Last 1 | Worked out from the other 12, so scanners can catch errors |
Labels for a whole range
Open Make many barcodes at once and paste one number per line, up to 1,000, then click Download ZIP. You get one PNG per product, named after its number, and an errors.txt for any value with the wrong length or check digit.
Before you print
- A barcode with a made-up number will scan, but shops and marketplaces that check the GS1 register will reject it.
- Keep dark bars on a white or light background and leave white space on both sides.
- Check a sample with QR Code Scanner, which reads EAN barcodes from a photo or the camera.
