Make an SVG for Cricut

Turn a PNG or JPG into a black and white SVG cut file for Cricut, Silhouette, vinyl and laser cutters. Threshold slider, background removed. No upload.

Runs in your browser. Your files are never uploaded. How it works

This page opens with Image type set to Black and white, the mode for cut files. Drop a PNG or JPG and the tool traces it into solid shapes with the background removed, ready for Cricut, Silhouette, vinyl cutters, laser cutters and stencils. Download the SVG and import it into your design software. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

Make a cut file

  1. Click Choose an image and pick a high-contrast picture: a silhouette, quote, logo or line drawing.
  2. Drag Threshold until the preview keeps the lines you want and drops the rest.
  3. Pick Detail: Smooth for easy weeding, Fine for intricate designs.
  4. Keep Remove the background on, then click Download SVG.

Settings for different projects

Project Suggested settings
Vinyl decals and iron-on Smooth detail, so there are fewer tiny pieces to weed
Paper cuts and cards Normal or Fine detail for delicate shapes
Stencils Smooth detail; check that inner parts like the middle of an O are joined to the rest
Laser engraving and cutting Normal detail, Threshold set so thin lines stay closed

Before you cut

  • Start from a large, sharp image. A blurry image gives wobbly edges.
  • Check the shape count under the preview: hundreds of tiny shapes usually mean noise. Raise or lower the threshold, or use Smooth.
  • Size the design in your cutting software. The SVG is a vector, so it scales without losing sharpness.
  • Remove a photo background first with Remove Background if the subject is not on a plain background.

Frequently asked questions

Will the SVG work in Cricut Design Space?

It is a standard SVG made of filled shapes, which Design Space and Silhouette Studio can import. After uploading, check that the parts you want to cut are filled shapes and remove any you do not need.

What does the Threshold slider do?

It decides which pixels become shapes. Move it one way and lighter greys are included; move it the other way and only the darkest parts remain. Watch the preview until thin lines are kept but the background is clean.

Why does my cut file have tiny pieces?

Specks and noise in the image become tiny shapes that are hard to weed. Use Smooth detail and start from a clean, high-contrast image.

Can I make a multi-colour layered design?

Switch Image type to Logo, icon or clip art and choose a few colours. Each colour is traced into its own shapes, which you can separate into layers in your cutting software.
