WebP to JPG Converter

Convert WebP images saved from websites to JPG in your browser, so they open in any app. Batch convert, free, no sign-up, nothing uploaded.

Runs in your browser. Your files are never uploaded. How it works

WebP to JPG converts WebP images into JPG files that open everywhere, right in your browser. It is the fix for “file format not supported” when you saved an image from a website and an app or form will not take it.

WebP or JPG?

WebP JPG
Typical use Images on websites Photos everywhere else
File size About 25–35% smaller Larger
Opens in older apps and upload forms Often not Yes
Transparency Yes No (becomes white)

JPG is already selected on this page, and only WebP files can be added. Need to keep transparency? Use WebP to PNG. Other formats: Image Converter.

Where WebP files come from

  • Save image as… in a browser. Shops, news sites, Google Images results and social networks often send WebP, so the saved file ends in .webp even when the page did not say so.
  • Downloads from CMS and image hosts, which convert uploads to WebP automatically.
  • Screenshots and exports from some Android phones and web apps.

Where WebP still causes trouble

Place Typical problem
Job, visa and government upload forms Only .jpg, .jpeg and .png accepted
Older Photoshop, Word or photo printing kiosks File not recognised
Some marketplaces and print shops WebP rejected at upload
Older Windows photo viewers Thumbnail or preview missing

Quality settings

Setting JPG quality Good for
Maximum 95 Images you will edit or print
High (default) 90 Almost everything
Medium 80 Smaller files for sharing

Because the WebP was already compressed, converting does not add detail. Maximum avoids adding further visible loss, at the cost of a larger file.

Things to know

  • Animated WebP turns into a still JPG of the first frame. For an animation, keep the WebP or convert it to a video or GIF in another tool.
  • Transparent areas become white. The result list notes this for each image that had transparency.
  • Images from websites are often small, for example 800 pixels wide. Converting does not make them larger or sharper; look for a bigger original if you need to print.

The WebP images are decoded and converted to JPG in your browser, with nothing uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Why do images I save from websites end up as WebP?

Many websites serve images as WebP because the files are smaller and load faster. When you save one, you get the WebP file, which some programs, older versions of Photoshop and many upload forms cannot open.

Are animated WebP images supported?

Only the first frame is converted. JPG cannot store animation.

What happens to transparent areas?

They become white, because JPG has no transparency. Use WebP to PNG if you need to keep it.

Are my images uploaded?

No. WebP files are decoded and converted to JPG by your browser and saved straight to your device.

Can I convert many WebP files at once?

Yes. Add them all; one file downloads as a JPG and several are saved together in a ZIP file.

Will the JPG be bigger than the WebP?

Usually somewhat bigger, because JPG is less efficient. Choose Medium quality if size matters, or run the JPGs through Compress JPEG afterwards.
