Runs in your browser. Your files are never uploaded. How it works

PNG to JPG converts PNG images into smaller JPG files, right in your browser. It is the quickest way to shrink large screenshots and photos saved as PNG before you email or upload them.

When to convert PNG to JPG

Your PNG is Convert to JPG? Why
A photo or scan Yes Often 5–10× smaller with no visible difference
A screenshot with photos or gradients Usually Much smaller; pick Maximum quality if it has small text
A logo or icon with transparency No Transparency would turn white; keep PNG or use WebP
Line art, diagrams, pixel art No PNG keeps hard edges perfectly sharp

JPG is already selected on this page, and only PNG files can be added. To convert other formats, use the Image Converter. If you only need a smaller PNG, try Compress PNG instead.

Where big PNGs come from

  • Screenshots. Windows, macOS, iPhone and Android save screenshots as PNG. On a high-resolution screen a single screenshot can be several megabytes.
  • Exports from design and chart tools. Canva, Figma, Excel and slide apps often export PNG by default.
  • Scans and photos saved as PNG by an editor or a scanning app.

Quality settings

Setting JPG quality Good for
Maximum 95 Screenshots with small text, documents
High (default) 90 Photos, most screenshots
Medium 80 Smallest files for photos

What changes in the conversion

  • Transparency: transparent and semi-transparent areas are placed on white. The result list notes it for each image that had transparency.
  • Edges and text: JPG can add faint ripples around sharp edges. On photos you will not notice; on a screenshot of code or a spreadsheet you might, so use Maximum.
  • Size in pixels: unchanged, except images above about 16 megapixels, which are scaled to fit the browser’s limit.

Tips

  • Need a file under a fixed size such as 200 KB? Use Compress Image to 100 KB and enter your limit; it works with PNG files and saves them as JPG.

Your PNG files are converted in your browser and saved straight to your device, without being uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Why convert PNG to JPG?

JPG files are usually much smaller than PNG for photos and screenshots with gradients, so they upload and send faster. Many forms and older apps also only accept JPG.

What happens to the transparent background?

JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas become white. If you need to keep transparency, convert to WebP instead, or keep the PNG.

Will the image lose quality?

JPG is lossy, but at the default High quality the difference is hard to see on photos. Text and sharp lines can show faint artefacts; choose Maximum quality for screenshots with small text.

Are my PNG files uploaded?

No. They are converted in your browser and saved straight to your device.

Can I choose a different background colour than white?

Not on this page. Transparent areas always become white. If you need another colour or transparency, convert to WebP or keep the PNG.

Which quality should I pick?

High suits photos and most screenshots. Choose Maximum for screenshots with small text or fine lines, and Medium when you need the smallest files and the image is a photo.
