PDF to CSV pulls the tables out of a PDF and saves them as a CSV file, ready for a database import, a script or any spreadsheet. Tables are found on every page automatically, including scanned pages, and you can fix any cell in the preview before downloading.
When CSV is the right choice
| You want to | Why CSV |
|---|---|
| Import into a database or CRM | Every tool reads CSV |
| Process the data with Python or R | One line per row, no formatting |
| Load it into Google Sheets | Opens directly |
| Keep a plain, small file | No styles or sheets |
The exact format
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Separator | Comma |
| Encoding | UTF-8 with a byte order mark, so Excel shows accents correctly |
| Quotes | Cells containing commas, quotes or line breaks are quoted |
| Several tables | One after another, separated by an empty line |
If your import needs exactly one table, click Copy on that table and paste it into a spreadsheet, then save it from there. In code, splitting the file on the empty lines gives you each table separately.
Good to know
- Merged cells are written once, in their first column; the other columns of the merge stay empty.
- Text that a spreadsheet would treat as a formula (starting with = or @) gets an apostrophe in front, so opening the file never runs anything.
- Cell text is written as it appears in the PDF. Currency signs, thousands separators and brackets for negative amounts stay in the text, so clean them in your script or use the Excel download.
Common problems
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Excel shows everything in column A | Your Excel expects semicolons; use Download Excel, or import via Data, From Text/CSV |
| A table was missed | Click Select a table yourself and drag a box around it |
| Two tables were joined by mistake | Click Split on the joined table |
| One table came out as two | Click Join with previous table |
| Wrong values on a scanned page | Correct the cell in the preview, or choose the right Text language and let it read again |
