Compress Video for Discord shrinks a clip so it sends without Nitro. It opens with Under 20 MB (Discord) selected, the limit for free accounts. Drop the video, click Compress video, and the file is checked after compressing and redone at a lower bitrate if it is still too big, so it always fits.
Discord upload limits
| Account | Limit per file | Pick |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 20 MB | Under 20 MB (Discord) |
| Nitro Basic | 50 MB | Under 50 MB |
| Nitro | Much larger | Usually no need to compress |
| Servers or bots with a lower cap | 8 or 10 MB | Under 8 MB or Under 10 MB |
Sizes are counted as decimal megabytes (20 MB = 20,000,000 bytes), a little smaller than the binary kind, so the file fits whichever way it is measured.
What 20 MB is enough for
| Clip | Typical result at 20 MB |
|---|---|
| Up to 1 minute of gameplay | Sharp at 1080p |
| 1–2 minutes | Good at 720p |
| 3–5 minutes | Softer; resolution is lowered automatically |
| Longer | Trim it first with the Video Cutter |
Tips for clips that look good
- Trim to the moment. A 30-second highlight looks much better than a whole match squeezed into the same 20 MB.
- Fast motion needs more data. Shooters, racing and shaky phone video get blurry sooner than a slow screen share.
- Remove sound if nobody needs it: the saved space goes to the picture.
- 720p is enough for most people, who watch in a small chat window or on a phone.
