Arabic OCR

Copy Arabic, Persian (Farsi) and Urdu text from images in your browser, in the right reading order. Free, no sign-up, the image is never uploaded.

Runs in your browser. Your files are never uploaded. How it works

Arabic OCR reads Arabic script in screenshots, photos and scans and gives it back as text in the correct right-to-left order, ready to copy. It also covers Persian (Farsi), Urdu, Pashto, Kurdish and Uyghur, and keeps numbers and English words the right way round. Everything runs in your browser, so the image stays on your device.

What people copy

From Why
A WhatsApp screenshot Quote or translate the message
A scanned letter or form Get text you can edit
A sign, menu or label Paste it into a translator
A Persian or Urdu document Copy the passage you need

Tips

  • Lines are returned right to left, top to bottom; check the order if the image has columns.
  • Decorative calligraphy and handwriting are not read reliably; printed text works best.
  • Need the text of a scanned PDF? Use PDF to Text with the same language.

Frequently asked questions

Does it read Arabic text mixed with English?

Yes. The Arabic model also knows English letters and numbers, so mixed lines come back in one piece.

Is anything downloaded?

The first time, the recognition engine and the Arabic model (about 18 MB in total) are downloaded and then cached by your browser. Your image is never uploaded.

Can I use it for other languages?

Yes. Pick another option under Text language, or Auto for English, European languages, Chinese and Japanese. Your choice is remembered.

How accurate is it?

Clean screenshots and printed text are read well. Check names, numbers and amounts before you rely on them; faint photos and handwriting give more mistakes.

Can it read a scanned Arabic PDF?

Yes. Use PDF to Text and choose Arabic under Text language: every scanned page is read, and you can download the text or a searchable PDF.
