Tamil OCR

Copy Tamil text from screenshots, photos and scans in your browser, with English words in the same image. Free, no sign-up, nothing uploaded.

Runs in your browser. Your files are never uploaded. How it works

Tamil OCR reads Tamil script in screenshots, photos and scans and gives it back as text you can copy, edit or translate. English words and numbers mixed into the text are read in the same pass. Everything runs in your browser, so the image stays on your device.

A notice or form Copy details without retyping

Tips

  • Vowel signs need a sharp image; crop close to the text before you start.
  • Read through the result: similar-looking letters are sometimes swapped.
  • Need the text of a scanned PDF? Use PDF to Text with the same language.

Frequently asked questions

Does it read Tamil text mixed with English?

Yes. The Tamil model also knows English letters and numbers, so mixed lines come back in one piece.

Is anything downloaded?

The first time, the recognition engine and the Tamil model (about 18 MB in total) are downloaded and then cached by your browser. Your image is never uploaded.

Can I use it for other languages?

Yes. Pick another option under Text language, or Auto for English, European languages, Chinese and Japanese. Your choice is remembered.

How accurate is it?

Clean screenshots and printed text are read well. Check names, numbers and amounts before you rely on them; faint photos and handwriting give more mistakes.

Can it read a scanned Tamil PDF?

Yes. Use PDF to Text and choose Tamil under Text language: every scanned page is read, and you can download the text or a searchable PDF.
