Greek OCR

Copy Greek text, accents included, from screenshots, photos and scans in your browser. Free, no sign-up, nothing is uploaded.

Runs in your browser. Your files are never uploaded. How it works

Greek OCR reads modern Greek, with its accents, in screenshots, photos and scans and turns it into text you can copy, search or translate. English words and numbers in the same image are read too. Everything runs in your browser, so the image stays on your device.

What people copy

From Why
A document or letter Get editable text
A screenshot of a website Copy a paragraph that cannot be selected
A menu, sign or label Paste it into a translator
A slide or textbook page Turn it into notes

Tips

  • Accents are small; screenshots at normal zoom and sharp photos read best.
  • Modern (monotonic) Greek is supported; the accents of polytonic, ancient Greek are not.
  • Need the text of a scanned PDF? Use PDF to Text with the same language.

Frequently asked questions

Does it read Greek text mixed with English?

Yes. The Greek model also knows English letters and numbers, so mixed lines come back in one piece.

Is anything downloaded?

The first time, the recognition engine and the Greek model (about 18 MB in total) are downloaded and then cached by your browser. Your image is never uploaded.

Can I use it for other languages?

Yes. Pick another option under Text language, or Auto for English, European languages, Chinese and Japanese. Your choice is remembered.

How accurate is it?

Clean screenshots and printed text are read well. Check names, numbers and amounts before you rely on them; faint photos and handwriting give more mistakes.

Can it read a scanned Greek PDF?

Yes. Use PDF to Text and choose Greek under Text language: every scanned page is read, and you can download the text or a searchable PDF.
