Screenshot to Text

Turn a screenshot into text you can copy, in your browser. Works for chats, error messages, web pages and apps. No extension, no install, nothing uploaded.

Runs in your browser. Your files are never uploaded. How it works

Screenshot to Text reads the words in a screenshot and gives them back as plain text, ready to paste into an email, a document, a search box or a translator. It runs in your browser, so screenshots of private conversations or account pages stay on your device.

What people copy from screenshots

Screenshot of Why copy the text
An error message or log Search for it or paste it into a support ticket
A chat or email Quote it in a reply or a document
A web page that blocks copying Get the paragraph you need
A slide or video frame Turn bullet points into notes
A settings screen Share exact values with a colleague

Getting clean text

  • Take the screenshot at normal zoom; text that was shrunk to fit is harder to read.
  • Crop to the part you need before dropping it; less clutter means fewer stray words.
  • Lines are returned top to bottom. Text in two columns side by side is joined on one line, so check and fix the order in the text box before copying.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a browser extension or app?

No. Open this page, drop the screenshot and copy the text. Nothing is installed, and it works the same on Windows, Mac, Chromebook, iPhone and Android.

Can I paste a screenshot directly?

Save the screenshot as a file first (most systems do this automatically), then drop it on the page or choose it with the file picker.

Why are screenshots read so accurately?

Screen text is sharp, straight and evenly lit, which is the easiest case for text recognition. Screenshots taken at 100% zoom give the best results; tiny or scaled-down text is harder.

Is my screenshot uploaded?

No. Screenshots often show private chats, emails or account details, so the text is read on your device and the image never leaves it.
