Russian OCR (Cyrillic)

Extract Russian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian and other Cyrillic text from images in your browser. Copy it, edit it, translate it. Free, nothing uploaded.

Runs in your browser. Your files are never uploaded. How it works

Russian OCR reads Cyrillic text in screenshots, photos and scans: Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian, Bulgarian, Serbian Cyrillic, Kazakh and more than twenty other languages, plus any English mixed in. Everything runs in your browser, so the image stays on your device.

What people copy

From Why
A document photo or scan Get editable text instead of retyping
A Telegram or VK screenshot Quote or search the message

A slide from a lecture Copy it into your notes

Tips

  • Letters like и/н and ш/щ need a sharp image; zoom in before taking the screenshot.
  • Handwritten Cyrillic is not read reliably; printed and screen text work best.
  • Need the text of a scanned PDF? Use PDF to Text with the same language.

Frequently asked questions

Does it read Russian text mixed with English?

Yes. The Russian model also knows English letters and numbers, so mixed lines come back in one piece.

Is anything downloaded?

The first time, the recognition engine and the Russian model (about 18 MB in total) are downloaded and then cached by your browser. Your image is never uploaded.

Can I use it for other languages?

Yes. Pick another option under Text language, or Auto for English, European languages, Chinese and Japanese. Your choice is remembered.

How accurate is it?

Clean screenshots and printed text are read well. Check names, numbers and amounts before you rely on them; faint photos and handwriting give more mistakes.

Can it read a scanned Russian PDF?

Yes. Use PDF to Text and choose Russian under Text language: every scanned page is read, and you can download the text or a searchable PDF.
